Official Cape May County criminal records must be requested from the office that created or maintains them. Sheriff incident reports, jail files, court cases, county government records, and New Jersey fingerprint histories all use different custodians. The routes below identify the appropriate office for each record type. Cape May County Criminal History is privately operated and cannot accept a government records request, issue an official copy, or act for a public agency.

This Is Not a Government Office. Cape May County Criminal History is a private reference resource. It cannot retrieve an official criminal record, perform an official background check, change a government file, or receive an expungement petition.

Need an Official Record?

Use the office tied to the record's source and purpose:

  • Superior Court files: use the Cape May Criminal Records Room, or review the Cape May County criminal court case routes
  • Personal New Jersey criminal history: follow the New Jersey State Police Personal Record Request and IdentoGO fingerprint process
  • Sheriff incidents and crashes: email Records@cmcsheriff.net with the case number or the incident date and officer's name, plus the requester's name, address, and telephone number
  • Jail and booking information: contact Cape May County Jail Records at the Correctional Center
  • Municipal police reports: request the report from the city or township police department that created it, not from the County Sheriff
  • Other county records: use the Cape May County Open Public Records Act process through the county administration office
